Band Students Advance to Governor’s Honors Program Finals

Congratulations to Laura Dudley (French Horn, Nathan Everitt (Percussion)

and Anna Rainwater (French Horn) for advancing to the GHP final audition.  These three

instrumentalists will represent Whitewater High School in February.  If selected they will

attend the four week GHP Summer Program designed to provide intellectually gifted and

artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities

not usually available during the regular school year.



Wildcat Marching Band "GRAND CHAMPIONS" at Creekview!!

Congratulations to the Wildcat Marching Band for their Outstanding Performance on Saturday at the Creekview Classic at in Canton, Ga.  The Band placed 1st (out of 7) in Class 4A, winning 1st place awards for Band, Color Guard and Percussion.  They were also named "Gold Division Champion" for the highest scoring Band in classes 4A & 5A.

In overall competition they were named "
Overall Grand Champion".  They were also given the "Rob Opitz Musicianship Award" for the band with the highest overall music score.  Our Color Guard (again) was "Best in Show" and our Percussion Section was 3rd Overall.  What a fantastic way to end your season!!!!!




"Best in Show" Music and General Effect  at Eagle's Nest Invitational

Congratulations to the Wildcat Marching Band for their Outstanding Performance last Saturday at the Eagle's Nest Invitational at Collins Hill High School.  The Band placed 1st in Class 4A, winning ALL the awards for music, GE, visual, percussion and colorguard.

They were awarded the OVERALL 3rd PLACE IN SHOW TROPHY, receiving awards for  BEST IN SHOW MUSIC and BEST IN SHOW GENERAL EFFECT.  The WHS Color Guard finished in 1st IN SHOW and the Percussion finished in 3rd IN SHOW.
Great job Wildcats!!!




 


Wildcats Win "High Music" at Valhalla Classic

Congratulations to the Wildcat Marching Band for their OUTSTANDING performance October 5th at the Valhalla Classic at Northgate High School. The Band finished 2nd in Class 4A, being edged out by Fayette County HS by .4 ( 4 tenths of a point!!!). They received the HIGH MUSIC award, given to the band with this highest music score from the ENTIRE Contest. Out of 17 bands the Wildcats finished in 2nd place overall. The Percussion was 4th of the day and Color Guard 6th and Drum Majors 7th. Great job Wildcats!!!

Whitewater High School Wind Ensemble Performs at The Rialto Center

The Whitewater High School Wind Ensemble will presents their 2011-12 Fall Concert with a debut performance at the Rialto Center for the Arts on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 7:30pm.  Each year the Georgia State University Band Department, under the direction of Dr. Robert J. Ambrose, invites one outstanding ensemble from the state to share a concert with the Georgia State University Wind Ensemble on the GSU campus. 

Joining the WHS Wind Ensemble will be Dr. Cory Mixdorf, GSU Professor of Trombone, performing the Finale from “Concerto for Trombone and Military Band” by Nikolao Rimsky-Korsakov.  Works by composers Paul Dukas, Vincent Perschetti and Malcolm Arnold will also be on the program.  The concert is free and open to the public. The Whitewater High School Wind Ensemble is lead by Directors Jack Jean and Robert Truan.


Jay Newsome II Wins Georgia State Talent Hunt

Jay Newsome II, a senior Saxophone player, placed 1st in the OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INC. - GEORGIA STATE TALENT HUNT, wining trophy and a $500 check. He will now compete at the District level Contest in Jackson, MS. Congratulations!!

Amy Melton named to the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra

Congratulations to Junior Amy Melton for being selected to the French Horn Section of the ASYO.  Students are selected by audition from the entire State of Georgia for this outstanding youth orchestra.
