In 1921, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) established the National Honor Society to recognize and encourage scholastically outstanding high school students.  Its founders wanted to form a society modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the undergraduate collegiate honor society.

The National Honor Society stresses education as a total experience, emphasizing the promotion of scholarship, along with leadership, service, and character.  Members are required to attend the chapter meetings (offered both before and after school), complete 10 hours of community service for each year of membership, maintain a 93 cumulative GPA, and uphold the high standards of NHS by remaining active in organizations and demonstrating positive leadership in all aspects of student life.

The National Honor Society is one of the most widely recognized co-curricular student activities in American high schools.  Furthermore, NHS awards yearly scholarships to outstanding graduating senior members of local chapters.  The NASSP organized this program in 1945, and since then they have honored hundreds of deserving students with a total of more than $10 million.

Currently the oldest, largest, and most prestigious school-based student recognition program in the country, the National Honor Society is considered the highest honor that can be bestowed upon students in secondary schools.

Please go to our website for more information (link below).  Students are asked to join NHS in the Fall of their Junior year.
